The Archer Film Festival coordinators are inviting budding filmmakers to participate in the fourth Annual Archer Film Festival. The gala film screening event will take place on Wednesday, April 29, at AMC Theaters at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles, California at 6:30 p.m.
In 2013, women comprised only 16% of all directors, producers, writers, cinematographers, and editors working on the top 250 domestic grossing films, according to the Women in TV website.
In light of these statistics, The Archer Film Festival is “dedicated to empowering student filmmakers with a focus on the promotion of women in the film industry. Our goal is not to exclude men, but to include women,” according to the festival’s mission statement.
On Thursday, April 30, The Archer School for Girls will hold a series of moderated panels with topics including Women in the Film, Breaking into the Business and Women in Television. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Archer campus.
Submissions are being accepted from students at schools across the United States and internationally. Archer film students are seeking original voices that convey a unique point of view, as well as an acute attention to craft and character. Although films made by both males and females can be featured at the event, films made by girls will receive the highest recognition.
The final deadline is on Feb. 28, 2015.
