Archer Varsity Track competed in its first league meet on March 9; the team finished in the top of many running and field events.
The sprinting category brought out some of Archer’s fastest runners. In the 100 meter dash, Archer sophomore Alyssa Downer ’17 came in first place, junior Marcella Riddick ’16 came in third and senior Shishi Shomloo ’15 came in fourth.
In the 200 meter dash, Downer came in second place, freshman Dominique White ’18 came in third and Riddick finished in fifth.
In the 400 meter dash, Archer senior Yasmeen Namazie ’15 came in first place and junior Leandra Ramlo ’16 came in second. Archer Freshman Joyce Barahona ’18 finished soon after in fifth place.
Archer runners again prevailed in the mid-distance races. Sophomore Leyla Namazie ’17 and senior Layla Masotta ’15 came in first and fourth place respectively in the 800 meter run. Archer also swept the top three in the 300 meter hurdles: Ramlo coming in first, junior Reanna Wauer ’16 coming in second and junior Ari Brown ’16 finishing in third.
In the 1600 meter run, Namazie ’17 finished in second with a PR of 6:02.11 — Masotta crossed the finish line soon after with 6:03.56. Sara Weitz ’18 came in seventh place with Lily Horton ’18 in eight place.
In the 4 x 400 relay, Archer came in first place — the team was comprised of the Namazie sisters, Ramlo and Masotta.
In the 4 x 100 relay, the Archer team, consisting of Riddick, Dominique White ’18, Maren Richter-O’Sullivan ’18 and Downer came in second place.
In the high jump event, sophomore Clara Gasperetti ’17 came in first place and Brown came in second. In the long jump, Riddick came in second place and Wauer finished in third.
“I’m just so proud of our team because this year everyone is so dedicated an we have and amazing team spirit,” Hannah Martin ’17 said about her team’s performance.
